During a match, an incident occurred when a hammer was thrown from the local stands onto the field, hitting the grass and then bouncing into the face of Yael Falcón Pérez. This caused concern among the participants and led to a brief interruption of the game.
Although the referee did not suffer serious injuries, the incident once again exposed the security flaws within Argentine stadiums. The situation did not end there: a loud bang also fell near assistant referee Mariana de Almeida, who fortunately was not injured.
The Ministry of Security of the Province of Buenos Aires confirmed the apprehension of the Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata fan who threw the hammer at referee Yael Falcón Pérez during the match against Vélez Sarsfield for matchday 15 of the Clausura Tournament. Thanks to the coordinated work between Aprevide and the Buenos Aires Police, the aggressor was identified through the stadium's camera system.
Due to these incidents, the match had to be stopped for several minutes to ensure the safety of everyone present before continuing. The detainee is now part of the corresponding contraventional case and could face additional administrative sanctions, including a ban on entering stadiums.
Beyond this regrettable episode, Gimnasia achieved a key victory that secured their place in the Primera División and brought them close to the Clausura playoffs.
The detainee was identified as Franco Suárez, DNI 43.178.812, residing in La Plata, and at the time of his arrest, he was also in possession of a flare.
The violent episode occurred at the 33rd minute of the first half, moments after Marcelo 'Chelo' Torres's goal put the 'Wolf' ahead.
However, the institutional climate remains tense: the squad did not train before the match as a protest against the salary debts maintained by the leadership.
